The National Science Standards call for less emphasis on knowing scientific facts and information and more emphasis on understanding scientific concepts and developing abilities of inquiry. This shift is based on the idea that the amount of facts and data is growing exponentially. Our ability to continue to use those facts depends on how well we understand their implications rather than on how well we remember them. "It's A Wired World" supports this shift in emphasis as well as specific Content Standards.

New Emphasis Pages
1. Putting process skills (such as observing, measuring, recording data) in context. 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11
2. Using multiple process skills - manipulative, cognitive, procedural 3, 4, 5, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15
3. Communicating science explanations instead of providing answers to questions about science content. 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 9, 12, 15
4. Public communication of student ideas and work to classmates, instead of individual or private communication of student ideas and conclusions to teacher. 5, 8, 9, 11, 12, 14, 15
